Chinese Medicine and Menopause

If you want some relief from the symptoms of menopause, contact Marc Gian in New York City's Flatiron District to schedule an appointment for acupuncture treatment and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Marc is an expert practitioner of both acupuncture and TCM.

Menopause is associated with uncomfortable or inconvenient symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, insomnia, fatigue, headaches, and joint pain issues. In Western medicine, these symptoms are all explained as reactions to decreased estrogen as the body stops ovulating. The symptoms of menopause are normally treated with Hormone Replacement Therapy or HRT. Still, HRT can have side effects many women would rather avoid. However, if you are looking for a more natural alternative, Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can come to your rescue!

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, menopause is often described as "Kidney Yin Deficiency," meaning that the balance between Yin and Yang energies in the kidneys has become upset – a natural consequence of aging. Yin energy coincides with relaxation, nourishment, and body fluids. When this becomes deficient, acupuncture with herbal medicine will help to restore balance.

Whichever medical theory we use to understand this condition, the fact remains that acupuncture, herbs, and oils can help with the symptoms of hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings associated with menopause. Acupuncturist Marc Gian can provide all of these treatments at his clinic in the Flatiron District of New York City or his Crown Heights Brooklyn location.

study conducted by the Duke University School of Medicine and the Wake Forest School of Medicine found that women receiving acupuncture treatments experienced 36.7 fewer vasomotor menopause symptoms, and reported a reduction in hot flashes and anxiety issues, as well as improvements in sleep quality.

Another study by the University of Southern Denmark found that women receiving acupuncture treatment had fewer hot flashes and night sweats. They also slept better and had less trouble with emotional issues.
